Guji Coffee
Guji coffee
Guji is a zone in the Oromia region in the south of Ethiopia. Coffees from Guji have clear Ethiopian cup characteristics, but the profile is more chocolate-spice forward than the high-toned, fruity Sidamo and Yirgacheffe coffees. This makes it a perfect option for espresso roasts or blends.
Arfasa General Trading has been producing, processing and marketing organic, UTZ and Rain Forest Aliance certified Guji washed and Guji natural coffee beans by exporting to variety of world market.
Guji Oromo culture in southern Ethiopia
The Guji, a subgroup of the Oromo pastoralists, are located in the highlands of Central Sidamo. They consider their own homeland to be the very ancestral cradle of Oromo culture. Only the Borana and Guji seem to have kept alive the splendid Gada age-group system. Its initiation ceremonies and the abundant lore which accompanies them, particularly as expressed in the Gada songs, are described and analyzed in the present work. The study of rituals and songs related to kinship, marriage, birth, and funerals is complemented by an insightful portrayal of the practical side of daily life in work on the homestead, cattle breeding, beer brewing, crop cultivation, food preparation, and so on.
Characteristics and Use
In terms of topography, culture, and flavours, coffee from Guji has a distinct terroir while sustaining the classic characteristics like the Aromas of sweet peach and chocolate. A very big, bold character with a smooth, chocolate mouthfeel. Spicy, exotic, and clean.Oromo region: rich with extravagant dark chocolate notes, jasmine, and crisp, sweetly-tart acidity. Previously, Guji produced both washed and naturals exclusively, but of late producers have started to offer honey’s as well. Guji coffees offer a composite, yet balanced cup profile that blends with both filter and espresso.
